Kerrisdale Masonic Hall

Next time you walk along 41st Avenue in Kerrisdale, just west of West Boulevard, look up as you pass Ed’s Linens and Collins Jewellery, and you will see that this building is one of Vancouver’s Heritage structures. It was renovated as nearly as possible to its original state and thus it received a Vancouver Heritage Award. It was one of the earliest structures in what was then a village.

UBC Gymnasium

Kon designed and learned about traditional Japanese architecture as well as studying innovative modern architecture, such as the concrete buildings of the architects Sakakura and Maekawa in Japan. These projects influenced Kon’s later design of Gymnasiums for the University of British Columbia's Physical Education Faculty that look as good today as when they were built in the late 60’s. He was project architect with the U.M.C.W.S. firm. After establishing his own firm he designed other UBC projects such as a Mass Spectrometer Facility for Oceanography and Computer Centre for Geography.

Vancouver Airport Radar Tower

Anyone who has flown in or out of Vancouver's International Airport will have seen the Radar Control Tower. Kon designed the circular stair enclosure so that staff could get up to make sure that all the planes were far enough apart from each other.

Fletcher's Dry Cleaning

If you have driven along West Broadway in Vancouver you will instantly recognize the Fletcher's Dry Cleaning Plant at Arbutus. What you may not have realized is that Kon designed this building and the project was designated as the Award Winning Design Of The Year by the American Dry Cleaner Magazine.

Uyeyama Residence

All architects like to design their own houses and this residence was built on the south side of Point Grey in Vancouver. The cedar siding continues from the interior to the exterior wings that shelter the south-facing patio. The fireplace was built from river rock and has a green slate hearth. Many visitors, architects and architectural students have admired the house and it's view.
